Everyone deserves to feel safe in their relationship, regardless of their gender or sexuality
WHO WE ARE
WHAT WE DO
The Safe Love Coalition is bringing together people who care this problem. Together, we can reduce domestic violence in the LGBTIQA community by addressing the additional barriers they face.
We know there are a lot of people who can help. There are people in LGBTIQA advocacy groups, domestic violence service providers, individuals who have experienced domestic violence and other dedicated individuals in the community who understand how serious this problem is and want to make a difference. But they cannot do it alone.
This is an incredibly complicated problem, but the Coalition is focusing on three main goals that underpin reducing domestic violence in this community:
-
Building the capacity of domestic violence support services to identify and address the needs of the LBTIQA community
-
Increasing the reporting rate of domestic violence amongst the LGBTIQA community
-
Targeted prevention and early intervention measures for domestic violence in the LGBTIQA community
The Safe Love Coalition is addressing domestic violence in the LGBTIQA community.
The LGBTIQA community face similar rates of domestic violence as the wider community but face many additional and unique barriers to its reduction.

Through doing this, the Coalition will help ensure the LGBTIQA community is not left behind as we tackle domestic violence.
By joining forces, the Safe Love Coalition has a stronger voice through which to lobby government for better services for the LGBTIQA community and more inclusive domestic violence practices.
The Minister for the Prevention of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, the Hon. Pru Goward, just released the NSW Domestic and Family Violence Blueprint for Reform 2016-2021. As part of this strategy, Women NSW are developing a prevention and early intervention strategy which will target communities at particular risk. This means now is an ideal time to ensure the NSW Government understands the issues facing the LGBTIQA community.
